The USM Program in Tourism & Hospitality, just entering its second year, was recently ranked one of "The 20 Best Tourism Degree Programs" by the independent website The Best Schools. The website provides information on hundreds of colleges and universities and thousands of degree programs, and provides listings of top programs in dozens of subject areas.
According to the site, tourism degree programs were ranked "based on the quality of the program, the types of courses offered, the faculty, rankings, awards, and reputation." USM's program was listed alongside established powerhouses such as the University of Massachusetts, Purdue, and Johnson and Wales. Schools were not individually ranked within the top twenty designation.
As the article explains, a tourism degree can help graduates get "a foot in the door to this massively growing industry and once inside, people have extensive career options." As the USM program grows and gains increasing recognition among its peers, it will remain focused on providing graduates who are ready to meet the many challenges of tourism planning, management and operations in Maine and beyond.
